Shrinky Dinks

Do you remember shrinky dinks? For those of you who didn’t do craft projects when you were a kid (I’m talking to you Mark Hudak), Shrinky Dinks were sheets of plastic that were usually preprinted with cartoon characters. My sister and I use to color in the pictures on the plastic and cut around the each shape. Mom would help us put them in the oven on a cookie sheet and then the magic happened… it shrunk to small hard plates.

Well Heather, a local Seattle artist, has taken Shrinky Dinks to a much higher level. She draws a picture on each piece of plastic and then shrinks it down to be used for her earrings and necklaces.

I can’t get over the detail. You’re actually wearing a piece of artwork when you wear Heather’s jewelry. I like this rollercoaster necklace – and the ferris wheel earrings to go with it, …and isn’t the blue egg in a bird’s nest sweet?.

She has jewelry with flowers, and several others with a bird theme: birds sitting on a wire, hummingbirds, pelicans, and the cutest love birds.

You’ll just have to come and see them in person.
